Founded by Blessed Frederic Ozanam in the spirit of charity, the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is a lay Catholic organisation of men and women who serve the financially needy among us.

At Church of the Holy Family, our parish-based SSVP Conference comprises about 30 members from all walks of life but united in one mission - to practise Christ-like love and compassion to aid, affirm and evangelise to our friends-in-need (FINs).

Primarily serving the poor within the Marine Parade district, a large proportion of our work consists of visiting adopted FINs and providing them with both financial and emotional support. We do this in teams of two to three members. We also celebrate festive occasions and birthdays with them, and work closely with various social service agencies to facilitate needs matching against the donations they receive. For example, we recently facilitated the donation of 100kg of rice to a homand another 50kg of rice to a Family Service Centre. We also raise awareness of social assistance available in areas such as job matching, medical subsidies and education.

In addition, we make home visits throughout the year, either sponsoring food and gifts or cooking for residents of the welfare homes. To finance our mission, we also conduct monthly second collections at weekend Masses.

Our members meet regularly at 8pm on every other Monday (except for public holidays). At these bi-weekly meetings, we reflect on the coming Sunday’s Gospel and update each other on our team visits to the FINs.

Established in 1954, Holy Family’s SSVP has never ceased working since, to serve the Lord by caring for the hungry and the needy in our midst. We warmly invite you to join SSVP meeting if you too, desire to serve God in this way.
