The Peranakan Group in Holy Family Church traces its formation to about 30 years ago. The late Rev Fr Alfred Chan started the group. Our group aims to promote awareness of the  Peranakan Heritage and how as members  we are an integral part of the Church of Holy Family. Yearly, the eve of the Lunar New Year Mass , is celebrated in Baba  patois.

Currently, about 20 of us meet, twice annually, during which we plan for our canteen duty.  When it’s our turn to manage the canteen, we decide on what Peranakan food to sell, from cakes to curries and Mee Siam.

At other times, we meet on an ad-hoc basis to plan for the Annual Peranakan Mass, choir practice or to discuss some Get to-gethers.

We are motivated to serve as Peranakans who can worship God within our unique culture in the Catholic Church. Some of our defining moments include the annual Peranakan Mass, which is a memorable event for the parish as well. All our Peranakan Nonyas and Bibiks and Babas, don our traditional attire of Sarong Kebayas and Baju Panjang.
